I don't know what kind of metal they are but they are not real gold. Maybe gold filled or gold plated but there are no markings on them other than the above mentioned patent number so I highly doubt that they have any gold content.
Still superb condition and the look of the real thing at a fraction of the price. See here the quality workmanship of the chains and of course the age is what you are paying for.
