This hand carved Oaxacan tigre mask is a hand-carved wooden piece used in traditional celebrations. It depicts a jaguar, or "tigre," an important symbol in Mesoamerican culture. The mask is hand painted featuring bold colors and sculpted details. Its design includes exaggerated feline features, such as sharp teeth and wide eyes, typical of masks used in festivals. The ears are made of a soft material (could be leather). The open mouth and visible tongue is typical of Tigre masks as the opening is how one would see through it (these types of masks do not have eyeholes). Created by Oaxacan artisans, it was likely worn during dances or rituals honoring the jaguar's spiritual and cultural significance. The mask shows signs of wear, indicating its use in community events. It serves as a functional artifact and a representation of Oaxaca's indigenous traditions. In fair condition with wear consistent, sold without support. H : 24 cm L : 21 cm
