History
Polly Pocket, the miniature doll and playset line, was first designed in 1983 by Chris Wiggs for his daughter, Kate, using a makeup compact as a dollhouse. Bluebird Toys of England, licensed the concept and began mass production in 1989. Mattel acquired Bluebird Toys in 1998 and took over distribution in the US, eventually redesigning the Polly Pocket line to be larger and more human-like. After a period of decline, Mattel relaunched a smaller, more retro-inspired Polly Pocket in 2018
